Good story. Rather well written too. On the other hand, I feel that Garin overdid things on the background detail front. Cramming-in too much stuff regarding Octavia's lineage, in order to attain a higher level of believability has just the opposite effect and makes things rather sketchy.
The tone of the story is also something that had me cringe a few times; sounding too blazé, bordering on patronizing. As if the author went out of his way to paint his characters as snobbish upscale brats with an agenda.
The fact that the story is interesting most of the time, saves a few things.
Getting rid of that air of been-there-done-that-got-the-T-Shirt, would make the story far more agreeable.
