I would have preferred "Evaline May In June" as a title, but hey, that's me. If anything, what "Evaline" does is prove that A.Broadsword is a great writer when he's on what I presume is more familiar terrain. What I also like here -and in other Broadsword tales- is the omnipresent, slightly ironic humor -often at the expense of the class some people belong to, or even society as a whole. It takes craftmanship and insight to do that in an accurate way. It is exactly this craftmanship, combined with a certain flair A.Broadsword lends his characters and descriptions, which make "Evaline May In Africa" as good as it is. JJ (9/10)

More about Racists than Racist, Broadsword has ventured into Colonial Africa for what I expected to be a sequel to "Kidnapped," But no, a lusty upper class English girl sates herself on African studs and then is forced to marry a poor white lad. Well worth a look.. (9/10)
