A well crafted, thoroughly enjoyable read. The plot and characters are engaging, and I thought the "puzzle" added a unique dimension. My only complaints are that it wasn't that much of a turn on to imagine unattractive women, as you are at some pains to describe Drizzle and the nieces, being tortured and whipped. And I wish that the Major's interest in whipping could have been reignited with the willing participation of Isobel, now that they have a perfectly good dungeon to play in. I would love to read a Sherlock Holmes story along these lines. Whippings and Watsonian outrage--now that would be a hoot! Thanks so much! (10/10)

Stories of such a quality are rare on the internet especially when bdsm erotics form the major theme. This one is very nicely done. A charming story line, very well written and very hot for devotees of the whipping vice. Thanks. (10/10)

Thanks for that. I think I'll have to crack on with Sherlock Holmes.

OK, it was not properly proof read, but otherwise it is a fine romantic gothic novella, with a clever twisted plot you would never get from the Bronte sisters. It's a good read, with interesting characters and, of course, the obligatory castle in the windswept wilderness(rather like the Yorkshire dales). The erotic elements -- you will get to them eventually -- are charming, in a clinical sort of way, and if well-whipped naked ladies turn you on, you should read this story. (10/10)

Thanks for that. I made the classic error with the proofing. I wrote it, proofed it, then made some changes. I'll have to watch that in future.
Clinical erotics? Yes, I can see that, but I like writing strong stories with strong characters, and they tend to take control. Also, my narrator is a stiff-upper-lipped Victorian gent and that tends to set the tone. He's a spinoff from another story I've been writing for some time, "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Spanking Dervish". The problem there is that Watson, the narrator, is inevitably so appalled throughout, the the erotic elements have to be filtered through several layers of Watsonian outrage. I don't know if I'll ever satisfactorily finish that one.

Quality writing. Love the story line, the protagonists and the mystery. It is not really stroke material (or not for me) but I am off to read your other one! (10/10)

Whenever I read one of Huffward's stories (Griselda being the other), I feel as if I have just finished a program on Public Broadcasting System. The prose is extremely distinguished (sent me to my dictionary several times) yet the frequency of misspelled words and improper verbs was a dichotomy that was hard to explain. A most enjoyable style in the final analysis. (10/10)

Sloppy editing, I'm afraid. Will do better next time.

Intricate and complex. Well written and enjoyable. (10/10)

Thanks for that. I was inclined to think that Isobel was less focused than Griselda, and that the cipher was perhaps an irrelevance. But I liked it well enough to submit it. I'm glad you did.
