Five thousand years from now, after a meteor strike, civilization re-emerges on New Earth, a brutal, savage land where men own slaveboys. Valak and Diogo run a whorehouse full of beautiful slaveboys. When Valak collects Jasari in payment for a gambling debt, the assassin doesn't expect to fall in love. |

High quality writing, excellent for the genre; looking forward to the plot developing and the sexual/sm activity becoming more intense. (9/10)

A tale with erotic spice. It should put a grin on the face of readers who have fun with setups of structural violence accompanied by a liberal dose of intimidation dialogue – like me. :-) The Shadowlands world is brought alive in our imagination through interesting descriptive features, be they about physical charms, group dynamics, or fucking furniture. One aspect that makes me scratch my head is this division between ‘boys’ and ‘men’ that appears not in dynamic terms, but almost as if they were two separate species. Don’t boys grow up and become men? Weren’t men boys when they were younger? Civil status (free/slave), apparently fixed sexual roles (top/bottom) and age (older/younger) – all are blended into conglomerates, sometimes steering dangerously close to cliché. In vain, the reader seeks for individual sexual preferences in the characters. The slaves don’t get asked what their sexual preferences are, that’s obvious and adequate. But the free characters, curiously enough, invariably seem to prefer the top role (and be past their first youth). More differentiation would do the story good and produce interesting plot material. For example, when a boy has outgrown the ‘pretty whore’ phase – what does his owner do with him? Valak seems to have a spot of character development coming his way, but the nice thing is that the possible consequences are not clear at all: The reader is kept in suspense. (9/10)
